Here’s some information about the main ingredients used in this Berry Madness Smoothie. Why we chose them and the benefits. 

Frozen Mixed Berries can be found at your local supermarket. They are cheap and useful in making smoothies as they don’t expire as quickly as fresh fruits. Also, they retain all their nutritional content so you don’t lose those important vitamins. They give the consistency of a smoothie without the risk of adding calories, which is great for those trying to lose weight.

Bananas are rich in potassium and therefore has many benefits including lower blood pressure and lower risk of getting cancer. Each banana also contains roughly 3 grams of fiber.

Honey has a low GI (Glycemic Index) and helps sweeten the smoothie. It has many other benefits as it aids in digestion, includes vitamin B, vitamin C and has been proven to help decrease the risk of cancer. However, adding too much honey would be counteractive as it contains calories and would not help if your aim is to lose weight. Bare in mind that less honey is required to get the same sweetness as sugar. One teaspoon of honey has more calories than sugar so as an alternative, you can sweeten your smoothies by adding a sweetener such as Stevia, which is a natural plant extract and contains 0 calories. We tend to add more berries as they are also natural sweetener.

Plain Yoghurt contains many nutrients including calcium, vitamin B-2, vitamin B-12, potassium and magnesium. Also, yoghurt is a probiotic meaning it contains a lot of good bacteria which live in our digestive system and studies have shown that yoghurt helps improve both our  digestive tract and immune system. Make sure to pick an unflavored and 0% fat yoghurt as the flavoured yoghurt contains high amounts of sugar and normal full fat yoghurt contains around 7 grams of fat which is not ideal for this healthy smoothie.

  • Frozen Mixed Berries – 1 cup
  • Ripe Banana – 1
  • Honey – 3 tbsp
  • Plain Yoghurt 0% Fat – 3 tbsp
  • Water – 1/2 cup
  • Ice – 1/2 cup

Step 1: Slice the banana and add it to the blender along with the rest of the ingredients.

Step 2: Blend everything until smooth – Drink your smoothie right away!
